An Evening with Julie Walker & Jess Kidd

Join us for an evening of conversation on the high seas with debut author of Bonny & Read Julie Walker and award winning author Jess Kidd and her latest novel The Night Ship

Bonny & Read: Caribbean, 1720. Two extraordinary women are on the run - from their pasts, from the British Navy and the threat of execution, and from the destiny that fate has written for them. As their exhilarating, tumultuous exploits find fame, the ballad of Bonny and Read is sung from shore to shore - but when you swim against the tide of history, freedom is a dangerous thing...

The Night Ship: Some secrets won’t stay buried forever, and Mayken and Gil, two outsiders whose fates are inextricably intertwined, must save each other before it’s too late. An imaginative historical epic of shipwreck, mutiny, fate and friendship based on a true story.

Julie Walker was accepted onto a Curtis Brown Creative course to work on an early version of BONNY & READ and it has been longlisted for both the Mslexia First Novel Prize and the Bath Novel Award. Born in the North East, Julie now lives in London with her husband and cat.

JESS KIDD was brought up in London as part of a large family from County Mayo. She is the author of three acclaimed novels: Himself, The Hoarder and Things in Jars. In 2017, Kidd won the Costa Short Story Award and in 2020 she was picked by The Times as one of the best emerging Irish writers.
