Formed in Leeds in 1977 during the first wave of punk, The Mekons emerged from the same art-school scene as Gang of Four before forging a sound entirely their own. Blending punk with folk, country, rock and experimental influences, the band have spent nearly five decades defying convention and continually reinventing themselves.
Renowned for their collaborative songwriting, sharp political commentary and dark humour, The Mekons have released a string of critically acclaimed albums and remain one of alternative music's most influential and enduring acts.
