About The Golden Hinde

The Golden Hinde is a full-scale reconstruction of Sir Francis Drake’s original vessel and a working museum and events venue in Southwark, London. Having sailed over 100,000 miles, she now welcomes thousands of visitors each year through educational workshops, tours, exhibitions, and a lively programme of public and private events.

With the ship currently undergoing a major multi-million-pound refit - funded entirely through our own income - this is an exciting moment to join our small, ambitious team and play a part in securing the future of this remarkable museum.

Who we’re looking for

We’re always interested in hearing from talented people who are passionate about heritage, visitor experience, education, hospitality, and events.

Our team works across a wide range of activities, including:

  • Delivering engaging visitor experiences and historic tours
  • Supporting educational workshops and school visits
  • Hosting public programmes and private events
  • Supporting front-of-house and customer service operations
  • Helping care for and maintain a unique historic vessel

Our work is varied and hands-on, making it ideal for people who enjoy working in a creative, fast-paced environment and who are excited by the opportunity to work somewhere unlike anywhere else in London.

Working aboard the ship

The Golden Hinde is a unique historic vessel. Working conditions can vary with the weather, and some roles can be physically demanding, involving uneven surfaces, ladders, stairs, and occasional confined spaces. Resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to work in a historic maritime environment are essential.
