The Golden Hinde is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

While we don’t have any current permanent vacancies, we’re always keen to hear from brilliant people who’d like to work aboard our iconic ship.

The Golden Hinde is a full-scale reconstruction of Sir Francis Drake’s original vessel and a working museum and events venue in Southwark, London. Having sailed over 100,000 miles, she now hosts educational workshops, tours, and a lively programme of public and private events. With the ship currently undergoing a major multi-million-pound refit - funded entirely through our own income - this is an exciting moment to get involved with our small, dynamic team as we shape the future of the museum.

Who we’re looking for

We’re always building a pool of freelancers and casual staff to support both our daytime museum and education activity and our evening and weekend events programme.

This could include:

  • Supporting educational workshops, tours, and visitor experiences
  • Front of House and customer support
  • Bar service and event delivery
  • Events coordination and on-the-ground event management

Our events range from music gigs and theatre shows to private parties, museum lates, and everything in between. Roles are hands-on, varied, and ideal for people with backgrounds in hospitality, customer service, education, or events who enjoy working in a fast-paced, creative environment.

Shifts are typically offered on a flexible, freelance or casual basis, with many taking place in the evenings, at weekends, and during school holidays. Training is provided across multiple delivery roles, and flexibility is key.

Working aboard the ship

The Golden Hinde is a unique historic vessel. Working conditions can vary with the weather, and the role can be physically demanding, involving uneven surfaces, ladders, stairs, and occasional confined spaces. Resilience, adaptability, and a good level of physical fitness are essential.
