Lovekyn Consort: Performing Shakespeare Aboard The Golden Hinde

Step aboard The Golden Hinde - the full-size reconstruction of Sir Francis Drake’s legendary ship - for an evening of music, verse, and celebration.

In honour of Shakespeare’s birthday last month, and to celebrate our partnership/collaboration with Shakespeare's Globe, The Lovekyn Consort returns with a richly evocative programme of songs and instrumental pieces from the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras. Vocalist Patricia Hammond, flautist and recorder player William Summers, and lutenist Stephen Carpenter bring to life music drawn from Shakespeare’s plays, including The TempestHamletTwelfth Night, and Othello, alongside timeless ballads like Greensleeves and Fortune, My Foe.

They are joined by actors from The Golden Hinde, who will weave spoken excerpts from Shakespeare’s sonnets and plays throughout the evening, conjuring the words and spirit of the Bard aboard this historic ship.

Expect an atmospheric and intimate evening of storytelling, melody, and poetry, where the magic of Shakespeare’s world meets the timeless craftsmanship of Renaissance music.

Programme highlights include:

  • Where the Bee Sucks and Full Fathom Five from The Tempest
  • The haunting Willow Song from Othello
  • Songs of love, loss, and merriment from Twelfth Night and The Merry Wives of Windsor
  • Renaissance favourites including Greensleeves and works by John Dowland

Please note:
There will be a short interval during the performance. Seating aboard The Golden Hinde is limited, so early booking is advised.
