Christmas Aboard the Golden Hinde

The first half will feature polyphony from England, Spain and Portugal by composers such as Tallis, Victoria and Lobo who were writing at the time of the Golden Hinde’s navigation. In music this was a golden age of polyphony with complex lines and rich harmonies.

The second half will feature carols which date from Tudor times, most of which are still familiar in some form today. People have been singing Good King Wenceslas for a very long time, perhaps even aboard this ship!

The Merbecke Consort is a smaller group taken from the Merbecke Choir which is based in Southwark Cathedral just round the corner. The Merbecke Consort is more fitted to the intimate space provided by the Golden Hinde.

Doors open 19:00 with mulled wine and mince pies available to purchase. Concert begins at 19:30. Seating is unreserved.
