The Dean of Southwark Cathedral enjoys a tour of The Golden Hinde

The Golden Hinde was delighted to welcome the Dean of Southwark Cathedral, The Very Reverend Dr Mark Oakley, on board yesterday, Tuesday 5 March.  Angus Francis-Coleman, Director of the ship, took the Dean and his Head of Visitor Engagement, Jon Dollin, on a tour to look at the ongoing restoration work that is currently being undertaken by its expert shipwright team and to talk about its educational work.

After his short ‘sail’, the Dean commented:

“It’s wonderful to have such an iconic historic attraction so close to the cathedral – a perfect next-door-neighbour!  I was particularly interested in the work the ship does with schools and within the local community. It's also good to hear how they are trying to reach out to new and diverse audiences with events such as the relaxed opening next month.  We are so lucky in Southwark to have such a rich tapestry of cultural and historical venues on our doorstep."
